Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 - Dar es Salaam – Mikumi National Park

Your Tanzania safari adventure begins with an early morning departure at 6:00 AM from Dar es Salaam, by train transfer into the heart of Southern Tanzania wilderness. The approximately 2 hour transfer to Mikumi National Park offers glimpses of rural Tanzanian life and changing landscapes as the bustling coast gives way to the open bush. Upon arrival in the early afternoon, settle in before heading straight into your first game drive Mikumi is renowned for its easily accessible wildlife, with the Mkata Floodplain offering excellent chances to spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions, and buffalo against a backdrop reminiscent of the Serengeti, without the crowds. Overnight accommodation is arranged inside or near the park, allowing you to fall asleep to the sounds of the African bush on your very first night.

Day 2 - Mikumi Game Viewing

Wake up to the sounds of the African bush and start your day with an early morning game drive, when Mikumi wildlife is most active. Head out into the Mkata Floodplain, often compared to a miniature Serengeti, in search of lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and the park resident herds of buffalo. Mikumi is also home to over 400 bird species, making it a rewarding stop for birdwatching enthusiasts. After a relaxed lunch back at your lodge or a scenic bush picnic, set out for an afternoon game drive as the heat softens and animals return to the waterholes — a great time to spot hippos and crocodiles along the Mkata River. As the sun sets over the floodplain, return to your accommodation inside or near the park for a second night immersed in Southern Tanzania's wilderness.

Day 3 - Mikumi – Dar es Salaam

Early morning short game drive (optional), and drive back to Dar Es Salaam with picnic lunch. Drop-off in the evening.
